The Jesus story wk 10: persecuted

This teaching is a 'hard sell' Jesus teaches us.  He doesn't bait and switch His followers.  We shouldn't be surprised when persecution happens.  Jesus tells us how we should respond when it comes.  His response might surprise us, however.

our Lord's Prayer wk 1

Revisiting something that might be so familiar it's become unfamiliar.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 2

Heavens aren't so far off as we think.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 3

Holy be Your Name.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 4

Heaven isn't a place to escape to. It's a kingdom Jesus initiated and we get to partner with Him to grow on this earth.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 5

God's kingdom is about His people frustrate the ways of the wicked.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 6

Jesus is not the treasure map.  Jesus is the treasure.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 7

Forgiveness has a source [Jesus] and a destination [others].

OUr Lord's Prayer wk 8

The point of Jesus being our shepherd is about how great, holy and good He is.

Our Lord's Prayer wk 9

A test tries to get a person to prove oneself faithful to God’s will, with the good intention that a person will pass the test.” Be aware in a season of testing not to give in to temptation. Testing and temptation aren't the same. The lure temptation is an attempt to gain the promises of God without sacrifice and dying to self.

Relational Vampires: week 1

We all know someone who thinks they should control our lives. Knowing our calling clarifies how we should respond to them. Knowing when they are controlling us gives us a heads up.
Learning to draw a line in the sand creates a new rhythm for our relationships.

RElational vampires week 2: Critical People

Critics want to drag us down. Jesus models for us how to live in such away that carries us over their criticism. We'll talk about 3 things to keep in mind and 1 thing to do all the time.

relational vampires week 3: Needy people

Helping people isn't always simple. It's complicated most of the time. We can give without hurting ourselves or making someones else's situation worse. We give strategically, serve wisely, and trust God.

Relational Vampires week 4: Hypocrites

Hypocrites are all around us they might even be in the mirror.  We'll discuss how we should deal with hypocrites in this message.

Paper Tigers wk 1: Terror by night

When we have terrifying thoughts realize a couple things. 1. You're not, those thoughts. 2. You're not alone with terrifying thoughts.  Engage your terrifying thoughts the way Jesus did when He had terrifying thoughts.

Week 2:  Bad Days

Bad days don't have to ambush us. Using these 6 resources we can learn to practice self-control.

Week 3: Insecurity

The cure for insecurity comes as we follow God. God knows our true identify even when we don't. God isn't comparing us to anyone else. God validates and affirms us.

Week 4: Pressure

Culture around us is pressuring us. Resisting that pressure requires an inner purpose. As we develop an inner purpose we gain influence and leave a legacy behind.

Leaving egypt wk 1

Our temporary solutions should never replace our destiny. When they do we become addicted to them. They will become our obsession and then our oppressor.

Leaving Egypt wk 2

The invitation of Easter is to leave your Egypt behind, and allow Jesus to transform you.

GNBC wk 1

This week we start a study in 1 Corinthians.  We'll see how this church struggled at following Jesus, and His ways.  We'll explore how this might apply to our lives in 2019.

GNBC wk 2

Lessons from the Apostle Paul, Thomas Jefferson, cruise line ships and aircraft carriers.

GNBC Wk 3

Mission over method is how we experience true unity.

GNBC wk 4

Jesus is enough.  We don't need to add anything else to Jesus.

GNBC wk 5

Maturity is part of the process.  Don't avoid it.  When we mature we can accomplish more.

GNBC wk 6

You're designed to be ONE with ONE.

GNBC 7

How followers of Jesus should engage in culture.
Lessons from an egg, pasta, and coffee bean.

GNBC 8

Communion isn't something to be worshiped, nor is it something to be mishandled.  It's a way for us to remember Jesus and His mission and join.

GNBC 9

Love isn't an emotion. Love is a decision that leads to an action that changes the world.

GNBC 10

We're all spiritual, the image of God is in every human.  That image is simply disconnected and distorted because of sin.  Jesus came to redeem us in spite of our sin and sends His followers on a rescue mission.  We are saved from our sins and saved to join in on the rescue mission.

GNBC 11

Lessons from a game of Jenga.

GNBC week 12

Spiritual disciplines help us connect to God like Jesus.  Spiritual gifts help us serve this world like Jesus.

stand alone: 2 Chronicles 20

Our first message of 2019 we step into the story of what Judah faced and how they responded to an overwhelming obstacle.  We also encourage and challenge our people to hear God's voice.  We are stepping into a 21 days of fasting and prayers in an effort to disconnect to the noise of our culture in order to hear God's voice clearly.

SGTC wk 3

The early followers of Jesus lived out their faith and as they did so the movement of Christianity became an irresistible force.  The manner in which they loved one another was authentic, intentional and yet simple.  Maybe we should take some lessons from them, and turn our resistible faith back into an irresistible movement.

SGTC wk 2

God's design to grow His church is through humanity.  You and I we get to be the church!  We can build personal relationships to remove as many obstacles for other people to encounter Jesus.

SGTC wk 1

God's ultimate goal for you and I isn't that we GO to church.  He wants us to realize we have potential in us.  His plan is for us to discover that potential and be used for His purposes!

WWJU?  Spiritually 'meh'

Followers of Jesus should live on purpose, offering hope, refreshment and healing to a broken world.  When we simply exists as followers of Jesus without a purpose we churn the stomach of Jesus.

WWJU? Hypocrisy

It's easy to spot hypocrisy in others, but it's really difficult to spot it in others.  Jesus would undo hypocrisy in all of our lives.

WWJU? Spiritual Pride

When we are full of ourselves we leave no room for God to work in and through us.

WWJU? Racial Divide

We admit we don't have all the answers, but we MUST discuss this issue.  Humanity caused this racial divide we're experiencing but the harsh reality of live is that we can't solve it on our own.  We need Jesus.  This week we provided Marc's Message Notes.

Week 1: What's your aim?

Every family finishes this statement in their own way, "As for me and my family we will ____."  How will you finish it?  What's your aim?  That reveals how you really will finish that statement.

Week 2: Reach and Release

Parenting extends our reach as we have to learn to release our children into what God has planned for them.  The challenge we have is to learn to release our children at the appropriate time.

Week 3: Opponent

Our opponent's desire is to keep us from reaching our full potential and our destiny.  We can't afford to become distracted and numb.  Our children our families are far too valuable to be distracted.

Week 4: Work & Special moments

Parenting correctly requires work.  There's no easy way to parent correctly.  No matter how you started you can become a better parent when we work at it.  Our children need us to create special moments as well.  These special moments allow God to speak into their lives in ways that our normal everyday life silences.

Be Friend

Week 1:  Be Friend the person in the mirror.  Learn to see yourself the way Jesus see's yourself.  He's removed the shame we all carry around with us and nailed it to the cross 2,000 years ago.
Week 2:  Be Friend the outsider and the 'other'.  Jesus' "US" included people like a recovering addicts and smug religious leaders.  Are we willing to do the same?

Week 3

Be Friend the poor and the wealthy.  Life is about what we are doing with what we've been given.  Jesus loved both poor and wealthy people so should we.

Week 4

Jesus models how to listen so that we understand someone and not defend our position or proof ourselves to be right.  We should listen so that we understand and not to defend our positions or show how smart we are.

Talking with God

Week 1

Prayer without a relationship with Jesus is empty and void, but prayer with a relationship with Jesus is powerful, life-giving and life-changing.

Week 2

When talking with God we can learn so much from kids.  Kids keep thins simple, short and honest.  We can do the same thing when we talk with God.

Week 3

The Bible encourages us to pray continually, but if you're like most people adding one more thing to do in our lives seems impossible.  We believe that God wants to talk with us in the midst of our crazy busy lives.  All it takes is acknowledging God and talking with Him.
